We recently partnered with the Iventsmet Association to deliver a short training session on AI in Trading and Compliance on 10 December 2025. The presentation cut through the hype to explain what AI is (and isn’t), then explored how firms are using it across investment management—from research and portfolio decision support to algorithmic execution—alongside the benefits and risks (including model opacity, bias, overfitting, and systemic risk).

We also covered the compliance and regulatory angle, including AI-enabled surveillance and communications monitoring, and the emerging expectations from regulators across key markets. The session went very well, with strong engagement throughout and a lively Q&A focused on practical implementation, governance, and responsible adoption.

We delivered a presentation on Tokenisation and Digital Assets: the Future of UK Investment Products on 27 November 2025, exploring how financial markets are moving from traditional “paper-and-ledger” ownership to digital, programmable ownership recorded on distributed ledgers. The session explained what tokenisation is in practical terms (turning real-world assets—like funds, bonds, or private market interests—into digital tokens), why it matters for investment management, and what changes it could unlock across issuance, trading, settlement, record-keeping, and investor access.

We also looked at the UK regulatory landscape and the direction of travel for policy and supervision, alongside what firms should consider when evaluating or launching tokenised investment products. This included the opportunities (greater efficiency, faster settlement, improved transparency, fractionalisation, and potential access to private markets) as well as the challenges and risks—such as custody and safeguarding arrangements, operational resilience, smart contract risk, cyber and technology dependencies, liquidity and market structure questions, and the ongoing need for strong governance, compliance, and AML/KYC controls. The session went well and prompted thoughtful discussion on how firms can engage with tokenisation responsibly while preparing for wider adoption.

From 1 September 2025, UK organisations will face a significant expansion of corporate criminal liability through a new offence commonly referred to as “failure to prevent fraud.” Under this regime, a company may be held criminally liable where fraud is committed by employees, agents, or other associated persons for the organisation’s benefit, if the organisation did not have reasonable fraud prevention procedures in place.

For financial institutions and other regulated firms, this development materially raises the standard expected of fraud risk management. It reinforces the need for a demonstrable and embedded framework—moving beyond policy documents to evidence of effective implementation, oversight, and ongoing monitoring. In particular, organisations should expect greater scrutiny of:

Fraud risk governance and controls that are preventative, not merely reactive

Operational ownership and accountability, including escalation and decision pathways

Documented evidence of reasonable steps, testing, and continuous improvement

Third-party risk management, including due diligence and contractual controls

Incentives and conduct drivers that may create fraud-enabling pressures

How Nistad Limited supports clients

Nistad Limited helps organisations prepare for this shift by strengthening end-to-end fraud prevention arrangements, including:

Reviewing existing fraud controls against the “reasonable procedures/steps” standard

Designing layered prevention and detection architectures aligned to risk profiles

Establishing clear accountability, escalation and governance to embed compliance culture

Delivering internal reviews, tabletop exercises, and scenario testing (including red teaming)

Enhancing third-party oversight and conduct/incentive risk controls

This evolving legal landscape means fraud risk is no longer only a financial crime concern—it is also a corporate criminal liability issue. Organisations should consider early action to assess exposure and ensure their fraud prevention framework is proportionate, evidenced, and operationally effective.

Wealth and asset managers are operating in an increasingly complex regulatory environment, with requirements continuing to evolve across multiple jurisdictions. As global investment activity expands across diverse markets, firms face growing pressure to manage compliance efficiently—without undermining agility, speed to market, or client outcomes.

Across the industry, there is a clear drive toward greater regulatory consistency, supported by technology, stronger data capabilities, and innovation. These tools can reduce friction in compliance processes while helping organisations meet both global standards and local supervisory expectations.

At Nistad, we believe the future of regulatory compliance depends on collaboration and a proactive, forward-looking strategy.
Our approach enables firms to:

Respond to changing regulatory requirements with clarity and confidence

Enhance governance, monitoring, and reporting through improved data and controls

Anticipate regulatory change and implement solutions that strengthen operational efficiency, not just compliance

We help clients move beyond reactive compliance—supporting them to plan ahead, standardise where possible, and embed sustainable frameworks that stand up to regulatory scrutiny while enabling growth.

The UK’s financial sector is navigating a complex mix of post-Brexit regulatory reform, technological disruption, and heightened scrutiny from regulators. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) continues to move towards outcomes-based regulation, placing emphasis not only on technical compliance but on demonstrable effectiveness — requiring firms to show that their processes genuinely mitigate risk and protect investors. Simultaneously, the introduction of the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill and the expansion of the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR) to cover conduct and culture risks are reshaping operational governance across the sector. For institutional investors, asset managers, and service providers, this evolving framework means that compliance, technology, and culture must now work in complete synchrony.

Market Insight: Operational Resilience as the Next Competitive Edge
As financial firms face increasing pressure from regulators to demonstrate resilience, operational robustness is becoming a core differentiator. Beyond meeting the FCA’s resilience standards, forward-looking institutions are investing in data lineage mapping, third-party risk management, and digital infrastructure resilience to ensure continuity under any market condition. Nistad helps firms not just comply — but turn resilience into efficiency, embedding agility and sustainability across the Board.

As the year winds down and many of us finally get a moment to step back, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what 2025 taught us — not just about the finance sector, but about the people and systems that power it. At Nistad Limited, we work closely with both businesses and finance professionals, giving us a unique view of the challenges and opportunities shaping the market. Today, we want to share those insights with you as you plan for the year ahead. 2025 was the year of adaptation. Across the financial landscape, organisations were pushed to adapt faster than ever. Regulatory updates demanded more precise compliance processes. Technology continued to outpace existing internal capabilities. And hiring markets remained competitive, driving companies to rethink how they attract, retain, and support the right talent. For finance professionals, 2025 brought increased demand for hybrid skill sets — individuals who could blend technical system understanding with strong analytical or compliance expertise. Roles that once focused solely on operations now required comfort navigating system integrations, automation tools, and evolving platforms.

Looking ahead to 2026, here are the trends we believe will define success:

Finance functions will prioritise agility. Businesses are preparing for more regulatory and economic uncertainty. This means upgrading systems, enhancing reporting capability, and building teams with resilience, flexibility, and broad system knowledge.

The talent gap will widen. Specialist finance and compliance skills will remain in high demand. For employers, this means acting early and working with staffing partners who understand niche requirements. For candidates, it means significant opportunity to step into more influential, system-driven roles.

As the Christmas season approaches and the fast pace of the year finally begins to slow, many people — whether they’re finance professionals or leaders of finance teams — take this opportunity to pause and reflect. The final weeks of December offer something rare: time. Time to assess what went well, what needs improving, and what kind of professional or organisational goals make sense for the coming year. At Nistad Limited, we see this period as one of the most strategic moments of the year. Both candidates and businesses benefit from stepping back now and preparing for the fresh start that January always brings. Whether you’re thinking about your personal career development or planning next year’s recruitment strategy, the holidays give you the clarity needed to make confident decisions.

Why Reflecting Now Gives You an Advantage As 2025 brought significant shifts across finance, compliance, audit, and system-driven roles, many professionals found themselves taking on new responsibilities. Perhaps you managed a system integration, supported a regulatory audit, or stepped into more analytical work.

Update your CV with newly gained skills, system exposure, and accomplishments. Candidates who do this now stand out in the January surge.

Evaluate what you want next. Are you looking for broader responsibilities? A more supportive culture? Remote or hybrid flexibility? Better alignment with your long-term goals?

Explore new opportunities early. Many companies start their hiring cycles in early January — but the planning happens in December. Starting conversations now places you ahead of the crowd. Nistad Limited specialises in connecting finance professionals with roles that match their technical expertise, system capability, and long-term aspirations. If you’re curious about what the 2026 job market looks like for your profile, we would be happy to provide guidance.

December Is When Smart Teams Plan Ahead While recruitment may naturally slow during December, hiring needs certainly don’t. January is historically one of the busiest months for talent acquisition — but the companies who prepare early secure the best candidates first.

Review gaps in your finance team, especially around compliance, reporting, controls, or system functionality.

Evaluate whether your existing finance system is fully supported, or if you need additional expertise heading into 2026.

Plan your Q1 hiring pipeline, ensuring you’re ready to move quickly when the new year begins. At Nistad Limited, we collaborate with employers to understand team structure, system requirements, and upcoming projects — allowing you to enter 2026 prepared rather than reactive. Whether you need interim support, a permanent hire, or someone who can bridge both finance and system capability, we can advise you on market availability and realistic timelines.

As we move into 2026, one theme has become impossible to ignore across the finance sector: technology alone isn’t enough. In recent years, businesses have poured significant investment into finance systems — ERPs, reporting tools, automation platforms, compliance technology, and more. Yet one trend consistently emerges: even the most advanced systems fall short when they don’t have the right people behind them. At Nistad Limited, we sit in a unique position. We support employers who rely on well-structured finance teams, and we guide candidates who excel at driving value through systems. This gives us a clear view of a reality the industry doesn’t always acknowledge: true financial transformation is a people-first process, not a technology-first one.

Why Finance Systems Matter — But Can’t Stand Alone
Finance leaders agree that systems are essential for growth, control, and efficiency. But in 2026, the expectations around system performance are higher than ever. Businesses need:

Integrated platforms that communicate seamlessly across departments.

Accurate, real-time reporting for decision-making.

Reliable controls and compliance frameworks that withstand scrutiny.

Automation that reduces manual workload and error risk.

However, the biggest challenges companies face aren’t about system capability — they’re about system utilisation. We hear the same stories from employers across the sector:

Systems are underused because finance teams weren’t properly trained.

Reporting tools perform below their potential due to a lack of internal expertise.

Integrations fail or take twice as long because organisations don’t have the right project support.

Compliance gaps appear when teams don’t understand system controls deeply enough.

And this is where the real opportunity lies — both for businesses and for finance professionals.

The Human Side: Why Talent Is the Real Success Factor
For companies, the right hires — or the right interim specialist at the right time — can be the difference between a smooth upgrade and a chaotic one. Teams thrive when they have:

Finance professionals who understand end-to-end system workflows

Analysts who can translate technical insights into meaningful reporting

Compliance and audit specialists who understand system-driven controls

Individuals who bring both functional finance knowledge and system capability

At Nistad Limited, we have seen firsthand how quickly a finance function can transform when the right people are in place. That’s why our approach focuses not only on matching skills, but making sure that candidates genuinely fit the organisation’s systems, workflows, and objectives.

For candidates, this shift presents enormous career opportunity. Professionals with system experience — whether SAP, Oracle, Netsuite, Workday, Sage, Dynamics, or bespoke internal tools — are in higher demand than ever. Strengthening system capability, or highlighting it more effectively on a CV, can elevate your career significantly in 2026.

Bridging the Gap Between Systems & People — Nistad’s Specialism
Our role is simple: we ensure that businesses get the right expertise, and professionals get the right opportunities, to make financial systems work as intended. Whether you need interim system support, a permanent hire with strong system exposure, or advice on how to highlight your own skills, we’re here to help.

Happy New Year from all of us at Nistad Limited! As we step into 2026, many organisations and finance professionals are beginning to feel the energy of a fresh start — along with the pressure of new demands, new targets, and new complexities across the financial landscape.

January has always been a month that sets the tone for the year, and whether you’re leading a finance team or navigating your own professional journey, the decisions you make now will ripple throughout 2026. With that in mind, we want to share some of the biggest trends we’re already seeing and how both employers and candidates can position themselves for success.

For Employers: Why 2026 Demands a Stronger, More Adaptive Finance Function
This year, finance leaders are facing a combination of regulatory tightening, faster reporting cycles, and increasing expectations around system integration and data accuracy. The companies that thrive will be those with:

Agile finance teams capable of handling rapid change.
Manual processes and outdated systems will struggle under new pressures. Organisations are prioritising professionals who are system-savvy, adaptable, and capable of bridging operational finance with technology.

The right balance of permanent and interim support.
We’re seeing heightened demand for hybrid workforce models. Many businesses are turning to interim or contract finance specialists to handle peaks, transitions, or system rollouts without overextending their permanent teams.

Stronger controls, compliance, and reporting expertise.
With regulation evolving yet again this year, companies are proactively strengthening internal audit, risk management, and compliance capabilities.

At Nistad Limited, we’re already assisting clients who want to get ahead of their Q1 and Q2 hiring cycles. If you’re forecasting growth, planning a system upgrade, or experiencing strain in your current finance function, now is the ideal moment to secure talent before demand surges.

For Finance Professionals: 2026 Offers New Career Momentum
For candidates, the market is shifting in a way that rewards strong technical grounding and system proficiency. Here’s what we’re seeing:

A premium on finance professionals who understand systems.
Candidates who can work confidently with finance technology — ERP systems, reporting tools, automation platforms — are becoming indispensable.

More opportunities for those with compliance or controls experience.
Businesses are prioritising risk management and assurance. If you have experience in this space, 2026 could be a transformative year for your career.

Greater flexibility in the job market.
Hybrid and remote options continue to grow, and professionals who articulate their value clearly — through updated CVs, clear career goals, and strong interview readiness — are standing out to employers.

If you’re considering a move, January is one of the best months to start conversations. Many organisations have refreshed budgets and clarified their headcount needs, making this a powerful moment to explore your options for the year ahead.
